Reduce the Voting Age

We are beginning to see more and more young people advocate for their rights. Teenagers have been taking to the streets and protesting issues such as climate change and inequality. That begs the question, should the voting age be lowered to allow teenagers to influence the leaders that we choose? I believe the voting age shouldn’t change.

At the young age of 16, our life experiences and opinions are still maturing. We may be emotional or even passionate about global issues, but perspectives change as life experiences grow. You can ask any adult and they will tell you that they are very different to their 16 year old self. Allow our teenagers to develop their perspectives before we let them vote.
